Simply put, points and miles are a type of currency. Now that we’ve got that settled, let’s go back to that vacation you’ve been planning. This rule is so important it took the top spot on our list of 10 commandments for travel rewards credit cards. If you need to lean on your card for things you can’t afford with cash at the moment, use the card with the lowest interest rate, not the one that earns the most rewards. Never, ever spend more than you can afford or buy things you wouldn’t have bought with plain cash.
